Biography

Emily Bielman is going into her third year at Riverside City College where she received her Associate in Political Science and is currently studying music. She has played clarinet since fifth grade, playing in her high school’s marching band, orchestra, and wind ensemble, as well as holding the title of drum major for three years. She currently plays in the RCC concert band while taking lessons under Dr. Joshua Phillips, and was a drum major for the RCC Marching Tigers in 2023 and Gold Drum and Bugle Corps for their 2024 season.

What inspired you to go into music?

My mom was in marching band when she was in high school so I always kind of expected to play her clarinet when I was old enough to start band in elementary school. I've always been very involved in the arts and my elementary school had a good music program for the younger grades that couldn't be in band yet and that's really what inspired me.

What is an interesting fact about you?

I'm not completely double-jointed, but I can hyperextend a lot of my joints like my elbows and knees.

What activities do you enjoy in your spare time?

I really enjoy crafting, specifically crocheting and sewing. I also read and like to take my dog on walks.

What are you most excited for about this 2024-2025 season?

I'm excited to play some new music that I haven't played before.
