Biography
John Becker is a student at Riverside City College, where he is studying percussion and drum set under Jessica Ragsdale, Jason Goodman, and Steven Schmidt. John started his musical journey on saxophone in the 4th grade and played all the way through high school as his main instrument. On the side, John loved to play drumset and decided to switch to being primarily a percussionist in college. Now, John participates in Riverside City College’s Wind Ensemble directed by Kevin Mayse, Concert Band directed by James Rocillo, Percussion Ensemble directed by Steven Schmidt, and plays in a Jazz combo. John also plays drums in an independent funk/soul band and teaches drums and percussion for various San Bernardino school district programs.
What inspired you to go into music?
My grandpa and dad both played saxophone in school, so when I was young deciding what I wanted to play I thought it would be really cool to be a 3rd generation sax player. Eventually playing saxophone evolved into a complete love of music and led me to where I am now!
What is an interesting fact about you?
When I was young I was in gymnastics.
What activities do you enjoy in your spare time?
In my spare time I enjoy playing games with friends and I love watching sitcoms (The Office, Parks and Rec, Brooklyn 99, Community)
What are you most excited for about this 2024-2025 season?
I’m excited to play in a new setting with some familiar faces and some new faces!
